If you run a limited company in construction, understanding CIS offsets can make a real difference to your cash flow.
When CIS is deducted from your sales (as a subcontractor), those deductions aren’t lost, they’re credits against your company’s tax liabilities. At the same time, if you pay subcontractors under CIS, you’re responsible for deducting and reporting tax to HMRC.
Here’s the key point:
CIS suffered on your income can be offset against your PAYE liabilities, including tax and National Insurance. If your deductions are higher than what you owe, you may be due a refund.
It’s one of those areas that’s easy to overlook but can quietly tie up cash if not handled properly.
If you’re unsure whether you’re reclaiming everything you should be, it might be worth taking a closer look. #construction #constructionlife #smallbusiness #taxseason #kentbusiness

Eye tests can sometimes be claimed or provided tax-free, but only in specific situations. The rules mainly apply to employees who use computer screens for work-
Eye tests – usually allowed
If an employee regularly uses a computer or screen as part of their job, employers must provide access to eye tests under health and safety regulations.
The cost of the eye test can be paid by the employer tax-free.
The employer does not need to report it to HMRC and there is no tax or National Insurance to pay.

“If your turnover hits £90k, you should register as a limited company.”
I think this one causes more confusion than clarity. The £90k figure is about VAT registration, not whether you should be a sole trader or a limited company. Two completely different decisions, for different reasons. #accountant #smallbusiness #taxseason #limitedcompany #soletrader
Leasing a car through your company can offer useful tax reliefs. Lease vehicles are generally tax deductible for corporation tax, though a restriction can apply for higher CO₂ emissions. VAT recovery depends on business use and can be restricted for private use, and employees using the vehicle personally may trigger a benefit in kind. Getting the structure right can have a real impact on your business. #smallbusiness #businesstips #smallbusinesssupport #vehicle #tax
Due Diligence is so important for a business. Do not cut corners! Be thorough and don’t be scare to ask the questions and then reject the client/customer. The annual allowance is the maximum amount of pension contributions you can make in a single tax year and still get full tax relief.
This total includes all contributions:
Personal contributions (including tax relief)
Employer contributions made by your company
Contributions made by others on your behalf
When you make personal pension contributions, you get income tax relief
Company contributions:
Can be made by your limited company directly into your pension.
Are typically tax deductible for Corporation Tax purposes if they meet the “wholly and exclusively” business test.
Still count towards the £60,000 annual allowance for pension tax relief for you personally

Hire purchase Tax Facts
* Hire purchase, the company legally owns the vehicle from day one, so you can claim capital allowances on the purchase price.
* The capital element of HP isn’t deductible as an expense, but you still get the allowances. The interest element is a deductible business expense.
* If the company is VAT-registered: you generally can’t reclaim VAT on a car purchase unless it’s 100 % business use with no private use at all
* If the car is available for private use (including commuting) by a director/employee, this triggers a benefit-in-kind (BIK) tax charge
* The company can deduct running costs (insurance, servicing, fuel where used for business) against profits

Marriage Allowance (UK) is a way for some married couples (or civil partners) to pay less income tax.
If one partner earns less than £12,570 a year (the tax-free Personal Allowance),
And the other partner earns between £12,571 and £50,270 (basic rate taxpayer),
The lower-earning partner can transfer £1,260 of their unused tax-free allowance to the other.
What does that mean in money?
It can reduce the higher earner’s tax by up to £252 per year.

Limited company reminder.
If you’re a Person of Significant Control, you must complete ID verification with Companies House and share your personal verification code with your accountant. Without the PSC ID verification code, filings and updates for your limited company can be delayed or rejected.
